Butler Medic 50 was one of three former volunteer EMS organizations in Butler County,
Kansas, which operated under the direction of Butler County
EMS. The original Rose Hill EMS 1st Responder group was
established in 1981. In 1984, the 1st responders began
staffing a BLS ambulance from an ambulance garage located in
Rose Hill, and a few years later became a part of Butler County EMS
with the garage becoming designated as EMS Station 5.
In January 2004, station 5 moved to the
newly built Butler County Fire District # 3 Station 1 and
continued to be staffed by volunteer technicians. Due to
the tremendous growth in the western part of Butler County, on March
9th of
2008, Butler County EMS added a full-time medic unit at
Station 5. The volunteer
technicians were moved to
a 'volunteer reserve' status, which allowed them to ride either
as 2nd or 3rd technician on all county medic units. The volunteer group has since closed the organization.
